The German defense company Diehl Defence has presented a new version of its Garmr MRS counter-drone defense system at Enforce Tac 2026.
The new Garmr MRS is an upgraded version of the Kinetic Defence Vehicle, which has already been tested in combat in Ukraine, according to hartpunkt. The main improvement is a significantly extended range up to 70 kilometers made possible by new interceptor drone types.
The abbreviation MRS stands for Medium Range System. This reflects the system’s shift from a short-range protection solution to a medium-range defense platform capable of protecting large areas against Class II unmanned aerial vehicles weighing up to 600 kg.
The upgraded Garmr MRS features a unified interface for launching different types of aerial interceptors. At the exhibition, two weapon options were demonstrated: the compact Cicada from Diehl Defence and the long-range Hornet Block 2 drone from Destinus.
While Cicada operates at distances over 5 kilometers and can neutralize a target with a net, the Hornet Block 2 can strike aerial platforms at ranges exceeding 70 kilometers.
The manufacturer has also upgraded the system’s sensor suite and software. Several Garmr MRS vehicles can now be networked to operate jointly. The system’s new architecture enables it to be integrated into a higher-level air defense network, allowing it to receive target designations from external radars and engage targets beyond its own line of sight.
The system is based on the Enok AB tactical vehicle, produced by ACS Armoured Car Systems and built on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class chassis. This platform, known as Caracal, is already being procured by the Bundeswehr for its airborne units.
