France is ready to send its instructors to train the Ukrainian military on the territory of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated that the first group will soon arrive to assess the capabilities of Ukrainian training centers.
Oleksandr Syrskyi held a conversation on this topic with French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu. The conversation was also attended by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umierov.
Syrskyi announced that France and Ukraine have already agreed on the arrival of French instructors.
“I welcome the initiative of France to send instructors to Ukraine to train Ukrainian servicemen. I have already signed the documents that will allow the first French instructors to visit our training centers and familiarize themselves with their infrastructure and personnel,” noted Oleksandr Syrskyi.
He expressed hope that France’s move would encourage other partners to do the same.
Recently, it became known that some NATO member states are privately discussing the possibility of sending military instructors to Ukraine to train the Ukrainian military and help repair equipment.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite suggested that Western military instructors could start working in Ukraine, provided that they are properly covered by air defense.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas stated that some countries have already sent their instructors to Ukraine to train the Ukrainian military.
According to Kallas, NATO allies should not fear that sending troops to Ukraine to train its soldiers could draw the Alliance into a war with Russia.
Kallas added that if Russian troops attacked NATO training personnel in Ukraine, it would not automatically trigger Article 5 on mutual defense.
As previously reported, Spain has agreed to increase the number of Ukrainian military personnel to be trained in the country.
