The Ukrainian government has allocated additional funds for the construction of fortifications.

This is stated in the statement on the government website.

“Regarding UAH 17.5 billion, they will be allocated for the construction of engineering and fortification structures, relevant equipment, and non-lethal fencing systems. The funds are allocated to the relevant state agencies and regional state administrations,” Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

In December 2023, Militarnyi reported that Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, showcased the construction of defensive structures and barrier lines being erected near the northern borders with Russia.

According to Lieutenant General Naiev, private companies, under the guidance of military engineers, were actively participating in the construction of defense lines. The construction work was being carried out continuously around the clock.

During these works, all means of mechanization, engineering equipment, and tools are used.

The defense lines are represented by numerous lines of trenches fortified with gabions and sand. They connect dugouts and long-term firing points into a single network.

The fortifications are being assembled into their final form from ready-made reinforced concrete structures already in place. Outside, the exposed part of the concrete structures is welded with anti-munition gratings.

In particular, several rows of anti-tank concrete barriers in the form of pyramids should slow down the passage of enemy armored vehicles.

As previously reported, the Estonian government has decided to build a defense line of approximately 600 concrete bunkers to repel possible Russian aggression.

The construction of the defense line will take place on the eastern borders of the state, namely in the Ida-Viru County and in the southeast of Estonia, with some fortifications being built near Lake Peipsi.

At a meeting in Riga, the Baltic defense ministers agreed that Latvia and Lithuania would also create a similar defense zone on the eastern border.
