All eight Leopard 2 battle tanks promised by Canada for Ukraine have arrived in Poland.

Canada’s Minister of National Defense Anita Anand voiced this.

She promised that Canada would continue to support Ukraine in the war with the Russian Federation.

“All eight Leopard 2 battle tanks promised by Canada for Ukraine have now arrived in Poland. We’ll continue to stand with Ukraine, and to provide Ukrainians with the tools that they need to fight and win this war,” Anand wrote.

At the beginning of February, the first Canadian Leopard 2A4 main battle tank arrived in Poland. It was delivered in a C-17 military transport aircraft from Halifax.

Canada also recently sent to Ukraine a Bergepanzer 3 armored recovery evacuation vehicle, which is intended to support these tanks.

Preparation

Ukrainian recruits are being trained in Leopard 2 tank operation in Poland within the framework of the Operation UNIFIER initiated by Canada.

The foreign military is training Ukrainian defenders to operate the tanks in order to ensure that the soldiers are well prepared to defend the country with greater mobility and firepower.

The Operation UNIFIER of the Canadian Armed Forces began in 2015 in response to a request from the Government of Ukraine to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At that time, the training mission helped to form and increase the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Canada’s assistance

In 2022, Canada allocated more than $5 billion in direct financial, military, humanitarian and immigration assistance to Ukraine. Instructors from Canada are present in Poland for the training of Ukrainian servicemen. In addition, the country intends to train Ukrainians in tactical medicine.

In January, they joined the tank coalition and promised the Ukrainian army four Leopard tanks. Later it became known that twice as much would be transferred.

Canada also promised to transfer 200 Senator armored vehicles and Bergepanzer armored recovery evacuation vehicles to Ukraine.
