Ukrainian gunners will receive 19 CAESAR artillery systems from Denmark.
The Government received widespread support from the Danish Parliament for the transfer of artillery systems to Ukraine.
The CAESAR self-propelled guns of the Danish Ministry of Defense will be handed over to Ukraine for free. In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will undergo a military training program.
Along with the transfer, the government will immediately consider the possibility of quickly acquiring new military systems.
“This is a very large and significant donation. We have been in constant contact with Ukrainians, in particular, about CAESAR artillery, and I am glad that now we have received widespread support from the parliament to donate it to fight for the freedom of Ukraine,” says Defense Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.
At the same time, the Minister of Defense mentioned that the system may have some technical issues.
“There is no doubt that it is needed, even if there are still technical problems with the system,” the Minister said.
They will have to be solved in cooperation with the manufacturer and Ukraine and Kyiv knows about it.
“Ukraine asked for artillery, despite these problems,” said the Danish government.
The government decided to transfer all 19 units of French-made CAESAR 8×8 artillery systems manufactured by Nexter.
“At the same time, we must find a balance between the help of Ukraine and the further strengthening of Denmark’s defense capability,” said Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.
The donations will lead to a delay in strengthening Denmark’s 1st Brigade. Therefore, the government is now considering opportunities to quickly acquire new systems.
