On October 22, the United States imposed sanctions on Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced this.

According to the press release, the restrictions are being introduced due to Russia’s lack of genuine commitment to the peace process aimed at ending the war against Ukraine.

These measures are aimed at increasing pressure on Russia’s energy sector and “undermining” the Kremlin’s ability to generate revenue for its war machine and support its weakened economy.

The imposed sanctions also target more than thirty subsidiaries of Rosneft and Lukoil involved in oil extraction and refining.

U.S. and international financial institutions are prohibited from conducting any transactions with the sanctioned entities.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged the Kremlin to immediately agree to a ceasefire. He emphasized that Washington is prepared to take further steps in support of President Donald Trump’s efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
