US’s Most Advanced Aircraft Carrier Gerald R. Ford Faces Sewage System Issues

The US aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford, currently off Crete, has experienced significant problems with its sewage system.

According to National Public Radio, clogging and overflows occur regularly, complicating daily life for the crew of more than 4,600 personnel.

Officials note that the vacuum-based system, adapted from civilian shipbuilding, struggles to handle the workload. Previously, acid washing was used to clear the pipes.

Engineering teams are working intensively, while sailors report worsening living conditions.

Despite these issues, US Navy representatives maintain that the technical malfunctions do not compromise the carrier’s combat readiness, and the ship continues its mission.

The Gerald R. Ford was launched in 2013 and commissioned in 2017. The carrier is 333 meters long, 78 meters wide, displaces 100,000 tons, and can reach speeds of up to 30 knots.
