US Deploys First Space-Based Weapon, Air Force Secretary Says

The United States has deployed its first space-based weapon in orbit and is prepared to use it to defend U.S. forces.
U.S. Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink made the statement during the annual Air, Space and Cyber Conference in Maryland, The Washington Post reported.

The official declined to specify the type of weapon deployed but said it would be used to ensure control of the space domain.

A U.S. official who spoke to the publication on condition of anonymity said the mission could involve destroying enemy satellites if they are used to target U.S. forces or American satellites.

Meanwhile, the United States is developing a network of space-based ballistic missiles. The system is intended to become part of the future Golden Dome air and missile defense system.

The American company Slingshot Aerospace previously received a $69.2 million contract to support the digital transformation of the U.S. Space Force.

The program’s main component is the TALOS intelligent agent, which the developers created to model realistic spacecraft behavior. The system analyzes large volumes of complex data, offers decision-making options, and simulates possible developments in orbit.
