US Apache Helicopter Crashes Near the Strait of Hormuz

A US Army AH-64 Apache attack helicopter crashed in the Strait of Hormuz area.

Both crew members were successfully rescued, according to two sources familiar with the incident who spoke to The New York Times.

US President Donald Trump confirmed to reporters on the morning of June 9 that the service members are safe. He did not provide additional details, noting only that an official report on the incident would be released shortly.

It remains unclear exactly what caused the aircraft to crash—whether it was fire from Iran, a mechanical failure, or other issues.

One source, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that an investigation into the incident has already begun.

The United States is actively deploying Apache helicopters to counter the Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to Tehran’s actions, the US imposed its own blockade on April 13, prohibiting commercial vessels from entering or leaving Iranian ports. Since then, US forces have turned back 134 vessels, and seven additional ships that ignored warnings were disabled.
