The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has demonstrated a new, previously unknown version of the domestic Neptune cruise missile.

Denys Shmyhal, Minister of Defense of Ukraine, conducted the demonstration for a delegation from Lithuania.

The new modification of the missile is distinguished by its visual features, including two side bulges. Their exact purpose is not disclosed.

According to one version, these elements are intended to install additional fuel tanks.

“We have demonstrated ready-made solutions that strike the enemy at the front and in the rear. Our manufacturers have presented their own products that can be manufactured in partner countries tomorrow as part of the Build with Ukraine program,” Shmyhal shared.

In August, a different version of the Ukrainian missile was demonstrated, which was longer than the new modification.

The so-called “Long Neptune” gained increased dimensions due to the use of more fuel. As a result, the diameter of the body and the overall length of the missile increased.

The weight of the warhead is 260 kg, 110 kg more than the anti-ship version. The range has been significantly increased: up to 1000 km for the Neptune-D version versus 280 km for the anti-ship version. The dimensions of the missile have been increased: its length is 6 m without the accelerator, and the body diameter is 50 cm.

As early as 2023, a representative of the Ukrainian defense ministry reported that the Long Neptune is compatible with the same launchers used for the basic anti-ship version.

The updated missile is equipped with a modernized guidance system. The missile is guided during the flight’s marching phase by an improved satellite positioning system, which increases the accuracy of target destruction.

The final stage of the flight is facilitated by an infrared homing system, which enhances the effectiveness of the kill even in challenging electronic warfare conditions.

The presentation of the new Neptune modification demonstrates the active development of domestic missile technologies and Ukraine’s readiness to build its own potential in cooperation with international partners.
