Ukrainian Navy Destroys Russian Naval Drone Near Snake Island

The Ukrainian Navy has destroyed a Russian surface drone near Snake Island.

The Ukrainian Navy reported the incident on social media on September 2.

According to the military, the special operation in the Black Sea was performed in coordination with a special unit of Ukraine’s Security Service (SSU).

The footage released by the Ukrainian Navy shows that the enemy surface drone was destroyed after being detected, using a precision-guided munition dropped from a UAV.

Following the strike, the Russian invaders’ unmanned boat caught fire and exploded.

The Ukrainian Navy believes the vessel was likely a KAMA unmanned surface vessel (USV) developed by the Russian company ZALA.

The multipurpose unmanned surface platform was first unveiled in June 2026 at the FLOT-2026 International Maritime Defence Show.

The KAMA has a claimed maximum range of 700 km. The unmanned surface vessel can carry a payload of up to 600 kg, allowing it to carry various types of equipment.

In June, the Ukrainian Navy destroyed three Russian unmanned surface vessels in the Black Sea.

Yesterday, the CyberBorosno OSINT community reported that Russian forces are building boat sheds in temporarily occupied Crimea, apparently to store unmanned surface vessels.

The infrastructure was spotted on the shore of Lake Donuzlav, near the settlement of Novoozerne.

This suggests that Russian forces may be preparing for a broader deployment of this class of weapon to strike commercial vessels and Ukraine’s coastal infrastructure.
