Ukrainian Intelligence Hacks Corporation Linked to Oreshnik System Development

Cyber specialists from Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence have hacked the information systems of the Russian Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology (MITT).

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence reported the results of the operation.

The data obtained includes information about the institute’s structure, management, and employees, as well as its current and prospective developments.

At the institute’s facilities in Moscow and other regions of Russia, engineers develop designs, software, engines and other components for missile weapons. They also conduct mathematical modeling and testing of control-system components.

The institute’s enterprises are involved in work on:

• RS-24 Yars and Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missiles;
• R-30 Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile;
• Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system;
• Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile systems.

Another area of the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology’s work is developing and improving satellite communications systems for the Russian military.

One key project is the Start-1M launch vehicle. If implemented, it will allow Russia to deploy low-Earth-orbit satellite networks.

The institute is also developing the Tiporyad unified space platform. It is intended to strengthen the Russian military’s intelligence, communications and command capabilities and increase the resilience of its space infrastructure.

During the operation, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence obtained the personal data of 2,648 institute employees whom Ukrainian intelligence considers to be involved in producing weapons used against Ukraine.

The individuals identified include Reserve Lieutenant General Sergei Ponomaryov, the institute’s CEO, as well as his deputies.

The Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology Includes:

Moscow Vympel Machine-Building Plant, which, according to OSINT Varta, manufactures, tests, and services equipment for technical and launch systems used in rocket and space technology. This includes cable systems, gas supply systems, lighting equipment, shock absorption systems, and systems for maintaining temperature and humidity conditions.

Prozhektor State Design Bureau, which develops signaling equipment and control and power supply systems for civilian and military airfields. The enterprise has also participated in developing autonomous power supply systems for mobile complexes operated by Russia’s missile forces and air defense forces and carries out state defense orders.

Iskra Research and Production Association develops and manufactures solid-fuel rocket motors, nozzle assemblies and composite components for Russian missile systems. The enterprise supplies engines and other components for the Topol-M, Yars, Bulava, Oniks, and Yakhont missiles and also participates in fulfilling Russia’s state defense order.
