The Ukrainian turbojet engine developed for the Bars jet-powered drones has completed its final testing.
The drone’s developer said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
Its introduction is expected to help the manufacturer reduce its reliance on imported powerplants.
According to the developer, the turbojet engine is currently the only major component of the Bars procured from abroad.
“It is no exaggeration to say that we source them from all over the world, but our own engine has now passed its final tests,” the developer said.
The Bars’ localization rate currently exceeds 74%. Establishing domestic production of the turbojet engine will increase this share while also eliminating a major bottleneck in UAV production.
The Bars has been under development since 2023. During this time, its design has undergone more than 40 engineering upgrades. The platform currently has several variants, with some versions offering a range of up to 1,000 km, a payload of up to 60 kg, and a top speed of more than 700 km/h.
Militarnyi previously reported that a joint venture had been established in Europe to produce Bars jet drones. The facility is expected to begin operations in early September.
