Ukrainian Drones Strike Engels 2 Airfield

Ukrainian drones attacked a military airfield in Engels.

This was reported by the ASTRA Telegram channel.

According to ASTRA, two drones were shot down and fell on the territory of the Engels 2 military airfield. Damage to the infrastructure of the airfield, aircraft, or casualties among the personnel are not reported.

The Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country confirmed information about drones over the Saratov oblast, saying that one drone was shot down.

Militarnyi’s own sources confirmed information about the attack on the airfield with long-range weapons of Ukrainian production.

Previously, in early October 2023, it was reported that the Russians were creating silhouettes of Tu-95MS turboprop strategic bombers at the Engels air base.

Judging by satellite images, two drawings of the Tu-95MS were painted at the bomber sites.

Near the drawings was a real bomber, which was “protected” by car tires.

Thus, the Russians were trying to protect strategic jets from Ukrainian drones attacks.

It is not known whether such protection will be effective given the flammability of the tires, the large open area, and the difficulty of extinguishing them.

Recall that the Russians were reducing the presence of strategic aviation at Engels air base. This was due to the night attack that occurred on December 26, 2022.

Satellite images taken after the attack showed that at least one turboprop strategic bomber suffered such damage that it had to be extinguished.
