The Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a strike on the Russian Baltimor military airbase in the city of Voronezh.

According to Astra, the attack occurred on May 27, 2026, shortly after a missile alert was issued in the region at 05:17 a.m. local time.

After that, an explosion was heard near the airfield, and smoke began rising from the area. At 05:44 a.m., authorities lifted the missile and drone alerts.

The AMK Mapping Telegram channel analyzed available footage and geolocated the strike. There is speculation that the attack was carried out using Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

Geolocation data from AMK Mapping shows the reported strike on the Baltimor airbase in Voronezh on May 27, 2026

The theory that Storm Shadow cruise missiles were used is based on the short duration of the air raid alert and comments from Aleksandr Gusev. He claimed that Russian air defense forces detected and shot down two high-speed aerial targets over Voronezh early that morning.

Baltimor is a military airbase in Voronezh’s Sovetsky district. It hosts the 47th Bomber Aviation Regiment, part of Russia’s 105th Mixed Aviation Division.

The airbase serves as a primary base for Russian Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bombers, which are regularly used in strikes against Ukraine.

Due to the threat of attacks on the airbase, Russian forces frequently relocate aircraft, but the site continues to be used for stationing military planes.

Militarnyi previously reported that during the night of May 15, 2026, drones attacked a military airfield in Yeysk, Krasnodar Krai, Russia.

The airbase in Yeysk hosts the 859th Center for Combat Employment and Retraining of Naval Aviation Personnel of the Russian Navy.

It is also home to the NITKA ground-based training system – a specialized aviation system designed to simulate an aircraft carrier deck for practicing takeoffs and landings by Russian carrier-based aircraft.

The Russians also use this airbase to station aircraft that launch strikes against Ukrainian territory.
