The company Ukrainian Armor presented the Varta-3 armored vehicle with mine protection, equipped with the remotely controlled Tavria combat module.

A correspondent for Militarnyi reports on this.

Showcased at the MSPO exhibition in Poland, the vehicle is designed to transport personnel, carry out combat and special missions, conduct patrols, and operate in environments with a high mine threat.

According to the developer, the armor can withstand hits from 7.62×54 caliber armor-piercing incendiary rounds, while the mine protection can withstand an 8 kg TNT-equivalent blast under a wheel or the hull. To reduce the blast wave’s impact, the vehicle features a V-shaped hull bottom and special mine-resistant seats.

The Varta-3 weighs 12.6 metric tons, with a curb weight of 14.8 metric tons. The armored vehicle is equipped with a diesel engine producing 326 k.s. and 1,400 N·m of torque.

The vehicle’s top speed is 100 km/h, and its claimed highway range is 500 km. The fuel tank holds 200 liters. The armored vehicle can climb slopes of up to 41 degrees and traverse side slopes of up to 20 degrees.

Tavria combat module

The developers have installed the remotely controlled Tavria combat module on the Varta-3.

Its primary armament is a 12.7-mm Browning M2 machine gun, supplemented by a 7.62-mm PKT machine gun. The module features a digital fire control system and gyroscopic stabilization.

The stated effective firing range is up to 1,800 meters. The turret has a 360-degree rotational range, an elevation angle of up to 60 degrees, and a depression angle of up to -10 degrees. The Hawkeye-M2T optoelectronic system is used for target detection and tracking.

According to the manufacturer, it can detect a person at a distance of up to 3.2 km and identify them at a distance of up to 1 km. For a target measuring 2.3 × 2.3 meters, the stated detection range is up to 9.5 km, and the identification range is up to 3.2 km.

As the manufacturer notes, the system can engage ground and air targets, including armored vehicles, other vehicles, personnel, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The system is also said to be capable of receiving external target designation from radars and command posts, automatically acquiring and tracking targets, and its ballistic computer is capable of calculating the trajectory of a moving target and the point of lead.

The operator can control the weapon system from both the vehicle’s protected compartment and a remote station.

The Varta-3 is positioned not only as a protected personnel carrier but also as a platform capable of performing short-range fire support and air defense missions.

The Varta-3 is a modification of the previous Varta-2 armored vehicle, which Ukrainian Armor delivered to the National Guard of Ukraine in August.
