Ukrainian Drones Strike FPV Operator Training Ground in Belgorod

Ukrainian drones attacked a building at Belgorod State Technological University, where the Russians had set up drone production and FPV operator training.

The attack was reported by the local Telegram channel Pepel Belgorod.

Based on the published photos, Militarnyi geolocated the struck building — it turned out to be the university’s hockey arena. A massive fire broke out in the building after the drone strike.

According to a local resident captured on video, drones were being manufactured in the building, and UAV operators were being trained there.

This information is also confirmed by the Pepel Belgorod channel, which reported on the morning of August 3 that the BSTU building, where UAVs were being developed and tested, had been struck.

One of the university’s employees told the publication Vot Tak that the building currently houses a training area for FPV drones, complete with nets, flight rings, and other obstacles.

“The university has staff responsible for modeling, designing, and creating new prototypes, but it’s not on the scale of Alabuga, where everything is mass-produced. I can say with 100 percent certainty that the building was used to train FPV operators, with nets, rings, and other obstacles,” he stated.

The university employee also stated that, in addition to students, “cadets” live in the dormitory. He clarified that this is the term the university uses to refer to Russian military personnel stationed on campus.

“As for where they’ll use the skills they’ve acquired — on paper, everything’s above board. And the drone training is strictly non-military in nature, unless the military personnel later use their acquired skills to film weddings with a Mavic,” the university employee noted ironically.

Belgorod State Technological University announced the development of an automated UAV control system based on the Russian Milandr semiconductor company. According to a statement from the university’s press service, their software is designed to increase the drones’ resilience to external conditions and reduce the impact of human error.

However, officials claim that such developments are intended exclusively for civilian use — monitoring power lines, heating mains, and aerial photography.
