Ukraine Codifies Steppe Wind Strike UAV With Range of Up to 70 km

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified the Steppe Wind (Stepovyi Viter) strike unmanned aerial system developed by domestic company Unwave.

Official codification enables government procurement and the delivery of these UAVs to Defense Forces units, the company told Militarnyi.

The mid-range UAV was jointly developed with partners from Sky Composite Engineering to hit stationary targets, armored vehicles, and personnel.

The strike system has a tactical range of up to 70 km, a maximum route length of more than 90 km, and a flight endurance of up to 65 minutes.

The UAV can carry a 5-kg payload and is equipped with an optical terminal guidance system.

The aircraft is launched from a launch rail without a catapult, has a setup time of up to 20 minutes, and supports automatic, semi-automatic, and manual control modes.

Unwave first spoke about the Steppe Wind in February this year at the MITS x Azov Corps: Defense Technology Horizons 2026 conference.
