Ukraine conducted another exchange of prisoners and returned 107 servicemen.
This was announced by Andriy Yermak, head of the Presidential Office.
Six officers and defenders of Azovstal returned home as a result of the exchange.
Among the released military personnel were soldiers of the Armed Forces, Naval Forces, Territorial Defense, State Border Guard Service, National Police, State Special Transport Service and National Guard.
“Today, we conducted another prisoner swap. We managed to free 107 warriors – 6 officers, 101 privates and a sergeant. These are our guys from Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Naval Forces, Territorial Defense, State Border Guard Service, National Police, State Special Transport Service, National Guard, including three Azov Regiment members,” Andriy Yermak said.
According to the head of the President’s Office, in particular, 74 servicemen who defended Azovstal have returned.
Yermak said that some of them reached Mariupol by helicopter to save lives and fight for the city as military volunteers.
“We returned home many wounded in the battles. In particular, we managed to exchange seriously injured and bedridden from Mariupol, from Azovstal, boys with shrapnel wounds of arms and legs, gunshot wounds of various parts of the body. There are people with amputated limbs and burns that do not feel part of the face, with infected wounds. There is also a serviceman wounded as a result of explosion in the colony in Olenivka,” the head of the President’s Office informed.
He added that many of the soldiers had been wounded back in March.
“The state will do everything necessary to help each of them,” Yermak promised and thanked the Coordination Staff for Treatment of Prisoners of War and the entire team for their quality work.
As previously reported, Ukraine conducted secret missions of Ukrainian pilots to besieged Mariupol. 16 Мi-8 helicopters participated in the missions.
They were delivering everything needed to continue the resistance, including weapons, ammunition, medicines, and supplies, to the defenders of Mariupol.
