The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled a large-scale mechanized offensive by Russian occupation forces in the area of responsibility of the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine.

On July 22, the enemy deployed units from the 8th and 41st Guards Combined Arms Armies, as well as the 90th Guards Tank Division of the Russian Armed Forces, to carry out assault operations, according to the corps.

To break through Ukrainian defenses, the Russians deployed dozens of armored vehicles, motorized vehicles, and specialized equipment.

The offensive unfolded simultaneously from several directions: forces of the 41st Army and the 90th Guards Tank Division advanced from the area of the village of Novoekonomichne.

At the same time, units of the Russian Federation’s 8th Guards Combined Arms Army launched an attack from the area of the village of Vozdvyzhenka.

For four hours, the occupying forces attempted to break into populated areas near the village of Shakhove.

During the assault, the enemy attempted to block the airspace using Gerbera and Lancet strike drones.

To support their mechanized columns, the Russians also deployed the Sarma multiple launch rocket system, which was subsequently destroyed by the Defense Forces.

In the path of the enemy’s advance, fighters from the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine and attached units had previously set up mine and explosive barriers.

In addition, tactical aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force damaged bridge crossings, and Russian attempts to deploy pontoon bridges during the battle were thwarted by repeated airstrikes.

The assault was repelled thanks to the joint efforts of 1st Azov Corps, the Alpha Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Air Force, the State Border Guard Service (in particular, the ‘Phoenix’ Unmanned Systems Regiment), as well as other units of the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Seven tanks, six armored vehicles, Grad and Sarma multiple launch rocket systems, three pieces of specialized equipment, and 47 units of light equipment were destroyed, and 123 occupiers were killed and 29 wounded.
