Ukraine Presents Components of Shershen Air Defense System

Ukraine presented components of the multicaliber Shershen air defense system at the MSPO 2026 international exhibition in Kielce, Poland.

The international consortium of companies Shershen Group, which is developing an air defense system for Ukraine, presented a command post, launcher and target-tracking radar station.

This modular system can use both Soviet-made missiles such as the R-60, R-73 and R-27, and Western AIM-9 and AIM-132 missiles.

A mock-up of the Ukrainian-made R-120 missile, which is currently under development, was also displayed on the launcher.

The system consists of a target-tracking station, a combat control post, and up to four launchers.

Regarding the surveillance radar station, a company representative said that any radar can be integrated into the system. It can also use information from the Oreanda or Virazh-Planchet mobile automated command-and-control systems for the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ aviation and air defense forces and assets.

The system can also operate with the Krechet system, through which it can receive information from other radars and air target detection sources.

Shershen SAM System

The multi-caliber Shershen air defense system project was first presented in February 2026 at the World Defense Show 2026 defense exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

At the exhibition in Poland, the system’s components were displayed for the first time, including the command post with workstations for the commander and operator.

The system’s engagement range and altitude depend on the specific missile type it uses.

For example, when using R-27ET1 missiles with infrared homing seekers, which are used on India’s Samar-2 air defense system, the stated engagement range against an aerial target is up to 20 kilometers.
