Ukraine Permits Partners to Develop AI Based on Its Own Data from the Front Lines

Ukraine has opened the possibility of training partners’ artificial intelligence models for drones using real combat data.

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that the government has adopted a resolution to launch a new format of cooperation among the state, Ukrainian companies, and international partners.

The initiative aims to increase the autonomy of drones and other combat systems so that they can detect targets faster, analyze the situation, and assist in decision-making on the battlefield.

The key to this is high-quality data for training neural networks.

That is why a special AI platform has been created at the Ministry of Defense’s Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies, which allows:

  • secure training of models without direct access to sensitive databases;
  • working with large arrays of labeled photo and video materials;
  • use constantly updated data.

Today, Ukraine has a unique array of battlefield data that is unmatched anywhere else in the world.

This includes millions of annotated frames collected during tens of thousands of combat flights.

This data is already being used to train neural networks that automatically detect ground and air targets in the DELTA system.

International partners and Ukrainian companies have a significant demand for such data to develop and modernize defense technologies.

Partners have the opportunity to train their AI models on real-world data from modern warfare, while Ukraine benefits from faster development of autonomous systems and new technological solutions for the front lines.

“We are ready to work with partners on joint analytics, model training, and the creation of new technological solutions,” Fedorov emphasized.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine recently approved the Concept for the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Armed Forces.
