Ukraine and France are working on the transfer of additional Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets, as well as missiles for French anti-aircraft missile systems.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced this following a meeting with his French counterpart Catherine Vautrin.

According to Fedorov, Ukraine is counting on the supply of French-made ammunition — both for the SAMP/T and Crotale air defense systems and for long-range weapons, the type of which is not currently disclosed, but is likely to be SCALP missiles and ammunition for the LRU (M270A1).

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry Head noted that France is ready to transfer additional missiles in the near future, but did not specify the exact nomenclature.

In addition, Ukraine is expecting the delivery of additional fighter jets, which should significantly strengthen the combat capabilities of the Air Force.

Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets are currently one of the key elements of Ukraine’s air defense system.

Thanks to their missile armament, in particular MICA missiles, these aircraft are actively used to intercept Russian cruise missiles and drones.

At the same time, intensive operation in combat conditions does not come without losses. In July 2025, one fighter crashed due to a technical malfunction. In a critical situation, the pilot acted professionally and successfully ejected.

The transfer of this type of fighter jet was announced in June 2024, with the first combat aircraft arriving in Ukraine in February 2025 and then being delivered in batches.

Defense officials also discussed countering Russia’s “shadow fleet” and France’s principled position on this issue.

On January 22, French special forces detained an oil tanker that was sailing from Russia and was subject to international sanctions.

The vessel in question was the GRINCH, which left the port of Murmansk and crossed the Strait of Gibraltar.

The operation took place on the high seas in the Mediterranean region with the participation and support of several French allies.
