U.S. Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick visited the front lines in Ukraine and signed an artillery shell with a message aimed at Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Fitzpatrick shared details of the visit on his social media accounts, posting a video capturing him writing the phrase “Peace through strength” on a shell.
“It was my profound honor to deliver a very ‘personal’ message to Vladimir Putin today, from the front lines of the war near the Russian border, on behalf of our PA-1 community. The only permissible details to share are that “the message was delivered on target,” Fitzpatrick wrote.
The shell, as seen in the shared video, reads “Peace through strength.”
The Congressman described his impressions of the trip, noting that the area he visited had once been forested but was now completely burned down.
He said Russian forces were indiscriminately targeting civilians.
“They are pouring bodies and artillery on you without much thought,” he shared.
Support from Republican lawmakers in the U.S. Congress remains crucial for Kyiv as it seeks to maintain its backing in the war against Russia.
Recent polls show that a majority of Americans view supporting Ukraine as in the U.S. national interest.
According to the data, 62% believe it aligns with national interests, while 29% disagree. Meanwhile, 55% of respondents disapprove of former President Donald Trump’s approach to the Russia-Ukraine war, and 38% approve.
