U.S. Prepares Bases for Three Months of Combat

The Pentagon has started preparing U.S. military bases to operate independently for at least 90 days in the event of a major war.

According to Fox News, the preparations are part of the FORTRESS military initiative, which aims to ensure that U.S. military bases can continue operating without relying heavily on civilian infrastructure.

Major U.S. military installations on the mainland must be able to meet their essential needs for electricity, water, fuel, and communications independently for at least three months.

To ensure energy independence, the initiative includes the use of portable small nuclear reactors, large-scale energy storage systems, and local power grids.

This will allow military bases to operate independently if civilian power infrastructure is disrupted.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell stated that the U.S. military can no longer rely solely on the protection provided by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

“We do not want to rely on standard civilian municipal infrastructure to support our national defense. That is an unacceptable risk,” he emphasized.

Other aspects of the program include establishing strategic reserves of ammunition, fuel, critical minerals, electronics,spare parts, and medical supplies.

The Pentagon also aims to ensure at least two independent supply or production channels for the most critical defense components, so that the loss of a single factory or supplier does not disrupt military operations.

Particular attention is being given to preparing U.S. industry for large-scale wartime production. Through the Civil Reserve Manufacturing Network, the Pentagon plans to identify civilian companies in advance that could quickly switch to manufacturing defense products during a war.

To achieve this, the military will need to coordinate technical requirements, contracts, production conversion procedures, and cybersecurity measures. The initiative also includes regular industrial capacity tests and exercises to practice mobilizing manufacturing capabilities.
