U.S. Army Receives First 3D-Printed Barracks

Two of the ten new barracks built using 3D-printing technology have been opened at Fort Bliss military base in the United States.

The construction uses a liquid concrete printing system that enables the creation of energy-efficient and durable structures with lower maintenance costs, according to DVIDS.

The contract includes the construction of 10 barracks designed to temporarily house up to 560 service members, replacing outdated temporary facilities.

The printing of all 10 buildings took 58 days, and the full cycle from signing the contract to handing over the completed facilities will take around nine months, with the work expected to be completed in September.


Thanks to the use of 3D printing, the U.S. Army reduced costs by 9.3% compared with traditional construction methods.

The total area of the facility is 7,250 m², and the barracks themselves will be used to accommodate units involved in securing the U.S. southern border.

The first 3D-printed barracks for the U.S. National Guard were built in 2021.
