Ukraine has delivered the first two engines for a promising attack helicopter ATAK-II to Turkey.
SavunmaSanayiST.com reported.
The ТV3-117VМА-SBМ1V-01Т engines will be used in the first prototype of the Turkish heavy attack helicopter.
This year, Turkey plans the first flight of the ATAK-II prototype using Ukrainian engines.
It is noted that the first two engines were originally to be delivered in September 2022, but due to hostilities in Ukraine, the process was delayed by 4 months: the delivery finally took place at the end of January 2023.
It is expected that the ATAK-II prototype with Ukrainian engines installed will begin ground testing this month.
According to the contract, the Ukrainian Motor Sich company should produce 14 engines for the program of creating a promising Turkish heavy attack helicopter.
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) company and Ukrainian company signed this contract back in June 2021.
Deliveries are scheduled until 2025.
The development of the T929 heavy attack helicopter started in 2019 with the signing of an agreement between SSB and TAI for the implementation of the Ağır Sınıf Taarruz Helikopter (Turkish for “heavy combat helicopter”) program.
The first operator of the ATAK-II helicopter will be the command of the ground forces and the command of the Turkish naval forces.
It is assumed that the ATAK-II helicopter will have a weight of up to 11 tons and will be able to carry up to 1,500 kg of weapons and ammunition of various types, as well as reach a maximum speed of 318 km/h.
