US President Donald Trump said he had “near” decided to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles.

He said this in a White House broadcast.

But he added that he “would like to know” what exactly these missiles will be used for and where Ukraine will send them, as he does not want escalation.

“I’ve sort of made a decision. Preaty much. Yeah, I think I want to find out what they’re going to them. where they’re sending them. I guess, I have to ask that question…,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s question about supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

At the end of September, during a closed-door meeting with US President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly in New York, Volodymyr Zelensky requested the supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles.

According to him, the main argument in favor of such a decision should be the increased likelihood of a ceasefire.

“Such high-tech weapons systems will help Vladimir Putin sit down at the negotiating table to discuss a peace agreement,” the Ukrainian president said at the time.

Later, US Vice President Jay D. Vance confirmed that the US was considering a request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and “a number of requests from Europeans” to sell Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. This is likely to take place as part of the PURL initiative, whereby the US sells weapons to other NATO countries for onward transfer to Ukraine.
