An analysis of Russian monitoring channels tracking Ukrainian drone interceptions over Moscow and the surrounding region identified around 1,500 reports of drone detections and shoot-downs.
The findings were published by the OSINT project DroneBomber.
According to the analysis, about 93% of the drones (around 1,400) were intercepted at the first and second layers of Moscow’s regional air defenses. Another 6% (approximately 100 drones) managed to reach the third defensive layer near the Moscow Ring Road.
According to the sample analysis, only one drone managed to enter Moscow.
“From 00:00 a.m. on July 1 to 11:59 p.m. on July 31, a total of 6,225 UAVs flew toward the Moscow region. Most of them were neutralized by air defense forces at long-range approaches. 780 drones were destroyed while approaching Moscow,” Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin wrote on his account.
The maps accompanying the report show a dense concentration of interception points around the capital, as well as the locations of Russian air defense systems.
DroneBomber notes that, according to this sample, approaches were tested from all directions, but no open corridors for a breakthrough were identified.
The researchers also listed confirmed strikes from the past two months. Among the verified targets were the Moscow oil refinery in Kapotnya (hit several times in June), the Dubna Satellite Communications Centre (SCC), Wildberries warehouses and logistics facilities, as well as several industrial areas.
They also recorded isolated cases of buildings being damaged by debris from downed drones.
In May, Militarnyi reported on Moscow’s air defense system and the recent strikes in the region at that time.
Despite the large number of drone launches, the number of confirmed successful strikes remains limited.
The researchers note that the available data does not allow for the conclusion that Russia’s air defense around Moscow is being depleted. In their assessment, the system continues to remain strong.
