The United States will hand over 5,000 Javelin anti-tank missiles to Ukraine by Friday

The United States will hand over additional 5,000 anti-tank missiles for the Javelin system to Ukraine.

The transfer of weapons was announced by the Pentagon spokesman John Kirby during a briefing.

Anti-tank weapons will be delivered to Ukraine by Friday, May 6.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby shared that Javelin missiles would be provided to Ukraine as part of military assistance to combat Russian aggression.

Javelin is a man-portable surface-to-air missile, manufactured by the American companies Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The rocket has a thermal homing head. Javelin is a fire-and-forget missile that allows the operator to hide immediately after the shot.

The system is designed to destroy armored vehicles and air targets at low altitudes (helicopters, UAVs).

The FGM-148 Javelin ATGM missile has a thermal homing head, so the operator of the missile system should not monitor and adjust the flight of the missile after launch while it is approaching the target.

American armored vehicles were recently tested and went through maintenance.

The United States has prepared a number of M113 armored personnel carriers for transfer as part of the U.S. initiative to support Ukraine.
