The U.S. will start training Ukrainians to use American howitzers in the coming days – Reuters

In the coming days, the United States military expects to start training Ukrainians on how to use the American 155 mm howitzer artillery.

On Monday, April 18, a senior US Defense Department spokesman shared that in the coming days, the US military expects to start training Ukrainian artillerymen on using howitzer artillery transferred to Ukraine, Reuters reported.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, mentioned that the howitzer training would be conducted outside of Ukraine.

The US military is planning to teach the Ukrainian trainers on how to use some of the newly received weapons such as howitzers and radars, and later, Ukrainian trainers would be instructing their colleagues inside Ukraine.

Last week, U.S. President Joe Biden announced an additional $800 million in military aid for Ukraine, expanding the volumes of aid to include heavy artillery ahead of a wider Russian assault expected in eastern Ukraine.

According to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, Ukraine will be receiving a variety of weapons.

In particular, this regards:

• 11 MI-17 helicopters;
• 18 115 mm Howitzers and 40,000 artillery rounds;
• 200 M-113 armored personnel carriers;
• 500 Javelin missiles and thousands of other anti-armor systems;
• 300 Switchblade UAVs;
• a number of radars for air reconnaissance.

The President of the United States authorized the provision of additional weapons, ammunition, and other security assistance to Ukraine, and said:

“We cannot rest now. As I assured President Zelensky, the American people will continue to stand with the brave Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom.”
