During the events in the Bryansk region, the Russians probably lost more than just two ordinary Mi-8 helicopters.

The Russian propaganda aviation social media page reported that the invaders may have lost the Mi-8MTPR-1 electronic warfare helicopter.

This helicopter is outwardly similar to a usual Mi-8, but on the inside, it is equipped with the Rychag-AV jamming station.

The specialized media of the aggressor country assumes that the Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopters could have been providing protection for the Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber jet launching guided aerial bombs at the Chernihiv region.

On Saturday, May 13, in addition to two helicopters, a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber and a Su-34 strike fighter crashed near the border with Ukraine.

According to the video published by the eyewitnesses, the planes and the helicopter were hit by a missile in the sky.

Crew members of all four aircraft were killed.

Russian propaganda previously showed off the Mi-8MTPR-1 EW helicopters participating in the war against Ukraine.

The Russians claim that the Rychag-AV EW system suppresses the enemy’s air defenses.

The Rychag-AV EW system is designed to suppress the operation of air defenses, surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems, and fighter aircraft.

Propaganda claims that Rychag-AV creates targeting jamming in terms of frequency and direction and jamming in terms of range. The EW system uses broadband multi-beam antenna arrays.

The EW equipment is installed in the rear part of the helicopter.
