The Bundeswehr orders hundreds of thousands of artillery ammunition

The Bundeswehr orders hundreds of thousands of 155-mm artillery ammunition from the Rheinmetall company.

Due to the depletion of the German army’s stockpile of artillery ammunition, the Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has signed a contract to purchase artillery ammunition.

The total value of the contract is estimated at €1.3 billion. The order includes not only combat artillery shells but also practice versions.

Set to run until 2029, the new framework contract represents a potential order volume of around €1.2 billion.

The framework agreement on additional production was increased to €246 million.

It is designed for the production of 155-mm DM121 ammunition.

The Bundeswehr currently uses a whole line of artillery shells from Rheinmetall. It includes the high explosive DM121, DM125 smoke/obscurant shells, DM121 SMArt search-fused rounds, and the DM96 practice version.

Militarnyi previously reported that the Bundeswehr placed an order for the purchase of additional 120-mm tank ammunition.

According to the framework agreement, the Bundeswehr will purchase several hundred thousand 120 mm tank ammunition for the guns of the Leopard 2 main battle tank.

The value of the contract is more than €309 million, and the first deliveries are scheduled on the day the contract is signed.

The order includes non-programmable munitions and programmable multi-purpose munitions with three modes of operation (timed detonation, detonation on impact with delay, and no delay).
