Norway plans to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine as quickly as possible.
Bjørn Arild Gram, Minister of Defense of the country, announced this in his interview with AFP.
According to him, this is most likely to happen at the end of March.
However, the exact amount of equipment planned to be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is still unknown.
“We haven’t yet determined the number,” Bjørn Arild Gram shared.
Discussions on this matter are currently ongoing.
Norway is one of the European countries that promised to supply Western-made tanks, primarily German-made Leopard 2, to Ukraine.
“It’s important that we coordinate closely with our partners so that this assistance would make a real difference for Ukraine,” said the Head of the Norwegian Defense Ministry.
It is known that Norway has 36 Leopard 2A4 tanks in service.
Norway will double the number of its military instructors training soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in international missions, and will also conduct training on its soil. The plan is to start training in the spring. During 2023, there will be several rotations.
As previously reported, Poland is negotiating to establish a coalition of Leopard 2A4 tanks donors to Ukraine.
“We have held negotiations among countries which own Leopard 2A4 tanks to jointly create a coalition of donors of modern armored weapons for Ukraine,” Polish Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said previously.
