If China’s claims on Taiwan are about territorial integrity, then it should also take back ‘historical lands’ in the Far East from Russia.

According to Reuters, Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te stated this. He noted that Russia is currently in a weak position.

He refers to the lands signed over by the last Chinese dynasty in the 19th century.

“If it is for the sake of territorial integrity, why doesn’t it take back the lands occupied by Russia that were signed over in the Treaty of Aigun? Russia is now at its weakest, right?” Lai said.

He added that China does not do this but continues to threaten to annex Taiwan.

“China’s intention to attack and annex Taiwan is not due to what any one person or political party in Taiwan says or does. It is not for the sake of territorial integrity that China wants to annex Taiwan,” Lai said.

He noted that, in fact, China wants to change the international order and “achieve hegemony in international space, in the Western Pacific.”

Relations between Taiwan and China are complex and tense. The PRC considers democratic Taiwan to be its own territory and has never ruled out the use of force to bring the island back under its control.

At the same time, Taiwan actually functions as an independent state with its own government, economy, and army. The island nation’s government rejects Chinese demands, saying that only the islanders can decide their future.

Militarnyi previously reported that the Taiwanese Armed Forces have started to massively introduce FPV drones into the military structure of the ground forces to ensure an advantage on the future battlefield.

The development of the new type of weapon starts in military units, where soldiers are trained to firmware drones, install warheads, and repair them.

Taiwan closely monitors the battlefield in Ukraine, where FPV drones have become one of the most common means of defeating many enemy targets.
