Switzerland Considers Defense Cooperation With Japan

Switzerland is considering the possibility of establishing defense-industrial cooperation with Japan as part of the Federal Council’s updated strategy.

To discuss future cooperation, Urs Locher, director of the Swiss Federal Office for Defence Procurement, made a three-day visit to Tokyo, according to Zone Militaire.

During the trip, Locher held talks with the Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Agency of the Japan Ministry of Defense.

The Swiss delegation also met with representatives from the Japanese companies Mitsubishi Electric, Blue Innovation, AirKamuy, and Solafune.

These companies specialize in developing anti-drone systems, military robotics, reconnaissance UAVs, and platforms for analyzing intelligence data.

As a reminder, Switzerland has eased restrictions on the export and re-export of weapons to 25 countries. However, Ukraine was not included on this list.

These are countries, most of which are located in Europe. Now, authorization to supply Swiss weapons to them is granted automatically, even if they are involved in an armed conflict.
