Su-57 Fighter Jet Likely Crashed Near Moscow

A Russian military aircraft, likely a Su-57 fighter jet, crashed in the Moscow Region this afternoon.

Russian propaganda media outlets, including REN TV, reported on this.

According to eyewitnesses, the pilot ejected before the aircraft crashed.

Local public groups are posting photos from the scene—a massive fire is raging in the middle of a field near residential buildings.

Preliminary reports indicate that the plane crashed near Zvenigorod in the Odintsovo District of the Moscow Region.

The exact type of aircraft that crashed and its purpose are currently unknown. No official information is available either.

However, the Russian Telegram channel Mash claims that it was the latest Su-57 fighter jet, which crashed during a training flight.

Su-57 was developed by Sukhoi (part of UAC) and is manufactured at the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur (KnAAZ). It is a multi-role fighter jet, development of which began in the early 2000s, and it made its first flight on January 29, 2010.

In late 2020, Russia inducted its first Su-57 fighter into service. The aircraft, with tail number 01, was assigned to one of the aviation regiments of Russia’s Southern Military District.

In December 2019, the first production-model Su-57 fighter jet crashed in the Khabarovsk Krai. The incident occurred 11 km from the Dzhemgi airfield.

This was the first crash involving a fighter jet of this type. At that time, the aircraft had not yet been handed over to the military.

In June 2024, Russia acknowledged that at the Akhtubinsk airfield in the Astrakhan region, Ukrainian drones struck two of the newest Su-57 fighters.
