A drone attack on Belbek airfield in Crimea disabled Russia’s latest RSP-28ME aircraft landing radar system, which had been protected with nets.

Dosye Shpiona Telegram channel published photos of the damage at the airfield. The strikes took place on the night of May 16-17.

The drones damaged the DRL-27SE control radar module of the RSP-28ME system. The attack also destroyed the system’s control module mounted on a KAMAZ-6850 truck.

The RSP-28ME system is designed to manage air traffic control for aircraft in the near zone of operational airfields.

It is also designed to monitor aircraft approach procedures and to maintain course and glide-path alignment during landing.

The system has been supplied to the Russian Armed Forces since 2021 and is operated by three personnel.
