Spanish politicians have banned the current government from purchasing ammunition from an Israeli company.
This is reported by Reuters.
Back in October 2023, Spain, in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza, promised to stop supplying arms to the Israel Defense Forces.
In 2024, Madrid went even further: the government stopped purchasing weapons from Israeli companies.
The Spanish Ministry of the Interior announced the termination of a €6.6 million contract to purchase more than 15 million 9 mm ammunition from Guardian LTD of Israel.
Subsequently, the state prosecutor said that the termination of the ammunition contract could lead to the need to pay the full amount without actually receiving the goods.
However, government officials believe that they have legal grounds to cancel the contract without financial obligations.
Israeli-made weapons are in great demand in Europe.
One of the most popular export categories is artillery systems and missiles, in particular the PULS multiple launch rocket system.
Thus, in early April, it became known that Elbit Systems signed a contract with an unnamed European country to supply precision missiles for PULS.
The order is estimated to be worth approximately $130 million. Its implementation is scheduled for three years.
Under the terms of the agreement, Elbit Systems will supply various types of missiles, including ACCULAR training missiles with a range of up to 35 km, EXTRA missiles with a range of up to 150 km, and Predator Hawk missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 300 km with high accuracy.
