Satellite images of the military airfield in Dzhankoi capturing the aftermath of a new missile strike have been released.

The RFL/RL’s Schemes journalistic investigation project published the photos.

The satellite images capture the destroyed launcher of the S-300/400 surface-to-air missile system on the territory of the military airfield.

In the images of April 27, 2024, the launcher was still in the same place where it was destroyed on the night of April 30.

It is not officially confirmed what was used to hit the airfield, but according to Sergey Aksyonov, Head of the Russian-controlled administration of occupied Crimea, the airfield was attacked with ATACMS ballistic missiles.

As early as May 1, 2024, satellite imagery showed that the launcher was destroyed, and the system’s other elements may have been severely damaged.

In addition, other SAM systems left their positions and were redeployed to other locations to avoid being hit again.

This is not the first loss of Russian air defense systems in temporarily occupied Crimea, which demonstrates low efficiency in intercepting Western cruise missiles Storm Shadow/SCALP EG and ATACMS ballistic missiles.

As previously reported, the strike was launched against military facilities in temporarily occupied Crimea on April 30, 2024.

At the same time, the local media and the occupation authorities reported a missile threat around 9 p.m. on April 29, and the first explosions occurred around 1 a.m. on April 30.

This is the second time that Russian air defense systems have been destroyed at the Dzhankoi airfield. The first strike was carried out on April 17, which resulted in the destruction of several launchers of the SAM system.

In addition, the 92N6E radar, which is responsible for searching and guiding missiles as part of the system, was destroyed.
