The Russian Kilo-class submarine, which was hit by a Ukrainian underwater drone in December 2025, has not moved for over a month, despite Russian claims that it was not damaged.

Satellite images of the damaged submarine were published by Mark Krutov, editor of Radio Liberty’s news service, on his X page.

Comparing the new image with previous ones, it is clear that the Russians are actively moving other submarines based in Novorossiysk, except for the one damaged by the Ukrainian strike.

We remind you that the strike was carried out on December 15, 2025, by the SSU’s Sub Sea Baby underwater drone. The operation was conducted jointly by the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SSU and the Ukrainian Navy.

The Ukrainian drone hit near the stern of the submarine, where the rudder and vertical rudder, stern horizontal rudder, and propeller are located.

Subsequently, intelligence officers established that the target of the attack in Novorossiysk was the B-271 Kolpino submarine, which is part of the 4th Separate Submarine Brigade of the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet.

The location of the Russian submarine's damage

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the submarine was not damaged as a result of the attack and released a video of it. However, the keel section, which was closest to the detonation site of the Ukrainian drone, was not captured on camera.
