Satellite Confirms Strike on Protected Building at Russia’s Energia Plant

Satellite imagery has confirmed a strike on a secured facility at the Energia plant – Russia’s largest manufacturer of batteries and power units for military systems.

The CyberBoroshno open-source intelligence group released the images.

The attack, carried out by combat drones, targeted the facility in the city of Yelets, the Lipetsk region, on the morning of July 15.

Experts from the community analyzed new satellite images of PJSC Energia and identified damage to one of the buildings within the industrial complex, which is involved in the production of modern lithium-ion, lithium iron phosphate, and other types of power batteries.

They also discovered that prior to the attack, Russian forces had installed a metal protective structure resembling a mesh over the building.

This type of structure was built in only one location, which may indicate the particular importance of that specific facility.

However, based on the traces captured by the satellite, the drone managed to detonate and cause damage to the building.

Following the drone strike, eyewitnesses reported fire and smoke in the area of the plant. This was the third attack in recent months on the facility, which operates in support of Russia’s defense industry.
