The Russians plan to produce approximately 10,000 advanced Dan-T missiles for strikes against Ukraine next year.
Ukrainian veteran and analyst kriegsforscher discusses the new Russian munition on X.
As of August, the Dan-T cruise missile can be launched from both ground-based and airborne platforms. Launches can be carried out from Su-25SM3, Su-30SM, Su-34, and Su-57 aircraft, as well as from the Mi-28 helicopter.
“In my opinion, in 2027 we should expect an extremely large number of problems from these cheap missiles, which are difficult to intercept. The Russians plan to produce about 10,000 Dan-T missiles alone in 2027,” the veteran noted.
He also shared an image of what appears to be a launch system for the Dan-T missiles. It is mounted on a wheeled vehicle chassis and features transport-launch containers for two missiles.
“The missile’s range is 500 km with a 135-kg warhead,” kriegsforscher said.
The analyst emphasizes a likely increase in the number of threats in 2027 due to the sheer volume of attacks by cheap missiles that are difficult to intercept. It should also be expected that a significant number of these weapons will be capable of being launched from ground-based platforms, ships, aircraft, and aerial platforms. Major General Vadym Skibitsky, Deputy Chief of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, also commented on this high-precision munition.
“The Russians are currently trying to switch entirely to domestically produced components. For example, one of the goals for the Dan-T is for the entire component base to be their own,” — he said in an interview on August 10.
The Dan-T is designed to engage armored vehicles, fortified field positions, and light infrastructure. Its technical specifications are similar to those of the S8000 Banderol — a munition launched from the Mi-28 helicopter and the Orion heavy UAV.
As noted by the publication Table.Briefings, work is currently underway to equip the Dan-T with a Kometa-16 antenna array along with an electro-optical terminal guidance system.
The Russian Aerospace Forces Command is considering the possibility of transitioning to the exclusive procurement of the Dan-T, with the gradual phasing out of the Banderol. One of the key reasons is a cost reduction of approximately 35% compared to the Banderol.
