Two Russian drones struck near the supporting structure of the Pivdennyi Bridge in Kyiv, after which traffic across the bridge was halted.
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko reported the incident.
Following the strikes, metro trains and surface public transport were temporarily suspended from using the Pivdennyi Bridge.
Specialists from the municipal enterprise Kyivavtoshliakhmist kp have begun inspecting the bridge’s structures to determine the extent of possible damage following the strikes.
According to Channel 5, citing passengers, one of the drones struck the bridge at the moment a metro train was passing over it.
Eyewitnesses reported a powerful explosion and a flash, after which smoke appeared inside the carriage and ash began falling from the ventilation system. According to their accounts, no passengers were injured.
The metro train managed to reach the Vydubychi station, where all passengers were evacuated. It is not yet known whether the train was damaged by the explosion.
Traffic across the Pivdennyi Bridge has been completely suspended while engineers inspect the structure for possible damage.
The Pivdennyi Bridge is part of Kyiv’s Syretsko-Pecherska metro line and connects the city’s right and left banks. The upper level carries road traffic, while a metro line runs between the bridge’s structural elements.
