The Russian army has received a batch of new TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower systems.
This was reported by the press service of Rostec.
The new systems were manufactured by Uralvagonzavod at the request of the aggressor country’s military.
These TOS-1A Solntsepyoks are based on the T-72 tank chassis. It is stated that the vehicles have received modernized sets of additional combined protection.
According to the Russians, they should provide protection of the upper segment from drones of various types.
The manufacturer notes that when developing these kits, they took into account the experience of combat use of similar flamethrower systems in the war against Ukraine.
This is intended to compensate for the losses suffered by the Russians from Ukrainian defenders, who periodically destroy such flamethrower systems using various weapons.
In particular, in October, the soldiers of the UAV strike unit of the 27th Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard burned down a TOS-1A Solntsepyok by accurately dropping ammunition from a drone.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the invaders have already lost more than 30 such flamethrower systems.
However, this weapon of the invaders remains very dangerous. The Russians are using them to fire at the positions of the Defense Forces and Ukrainian settlements in order to destroy them and break through the front.
Uralvagonzavod is currently testing a modernized version of the system based on the T-80 tank. It is noted that this modification has introduced a number of improvements that provide greater range, accuracy and process automation.
