For the first time, diesel-electric submarines of the Russian Navy and the People’s Liberation Army Navy of China jointly patrolled the Asia-Pacific region.
The Russian Pacific Fleet announced this.
The underwater patrols started after the completion of the Russian-Chinese exercise Maritime Interaction 2025, which took place in the Sea of Japan from August 3 to 5.
The Russian submarine Volkhov of the Pacific Fleet took part in the patrol. China sent a similar boat.
The joint patrols took place in the Japanese and East China Seas.
After completing their assigned tasks at sea, the submarines returned to their home bases.
The Russian and Chinese diesel-electric submarines, the Gromky corvette, and the Fotiy Krylov rescue tug of the Pacific Fleet provided the first underwater patrol.
It is noted that the Volkhov boat covered more than 2,000 nautical miles during this patrol.
Earlier in August, the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs and the Chinese destroyer Shaoxing, accompanied by supply vessels of both countries, conducted joint patrols in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the time, it was stated that the primary purpose of the patrol was to strengthen naval cooperation between Moscow and Beijing. The crews monitored the maritime area and protected maritime economic facilities belonging to Russia and China.
Such joint patrols in the region have been conducted annually since 2021. They cover areas of high strategic importance and take place both in neutral waters and near exclusive economic zones.
