Ukrainian soldiers shot down a Russian combat aircraft near the village of Berestove, in the Bakhmut district.

The aircraft was struck by the soldiers of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade “Edelweiss”.

Soldiers said that the aircraft they’d managed to hit was the Su-25 jet.

The Russian jet aircraft was struck with the Polish-made Piorun MANPADS.

“The range is 2-3 km. We thank the Polish friends for their constant help,” the Brigade said.

Ukraine received these Piorun MANPADS from Poland in 2022.

Piorun MANPADS is a deeply modernized version of the Polish Grom missile system, which is produced by Mesko.

Within this upgrade, the sensitivity of the infrared homing device was quadrupled.

The man-portable air defense system has a warhead of 1.82 kg, and it is known to be able to hit targets at an altitude of up to 4000 m and a range of up to 6500 m.

Piorun can strike small credible targets, such as UAVs, due to contactless undermining.

In Ukraine, systems are used against Russian aviation and drones.

Previously, in early March, in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region, a Russian combat aircraft fell.
