A new Su-57 multirole fighter burned down at Akhtubinsk air base in Russia’s Astrakhan region on October 29.
The Absolutely Reliable Source Telegram channel reported the incident, publishing satellite images of the airfield.
According to preliminary reports, the aircraft caught fire following an abnormal situation during engine start-up.
This is the fourth reported case of a Su-57 being hit or lost in 2026. On April 25, Ukrainian drones struck two such fighters at the Shagol airfield in the Chelyabinsk region, Russia.
Another aircraft crashed in the Moscow region on July 23. It was mistakenly shot down by a Russian BARS Moscow air defence unit.
The Su-57 is a Russian multirole fighter designed to engage aerial, ground and naval targets.
The aircraft has a top speed of approximately 2,600 km/h and can carry guided armament, including air-to-surface missiles. Serial production of the Su-57 is carried out at the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
