Russia Reports Fire at Ust-Luga Port Following UAV Attack

A fire broke out at the Russian port of Ust-Luga, the Leningrad region, as a result of an attack by Ukrainian UAVs, stated the region’s governor Aleksandr Drozdenko on the morning of August 14.

A drone alert was announced in the region around 3:00 a.m.

“Following the damage, a fire broke out at the port of Ust-Luga. Experts have begun extinguishing it,” Drozdenko said at 6:21 a.m.

The aggressor country’s official added that air defense forces had allegedly shot down 51 UAVs over the Leningrad region. Twenty-seven minutes later, he announced that the drone threat had been neutralized.

There are no videos or photos from the scene of the fire online for now.

Port of Ust-Luga

The Russian port of Ust-Luga is the second-largest and most modern seaport on the Baltic Sea and one of the largest in Europe.

The port is a multipurpose facility, but its main function is the export of oil and petroleum products. It serves as the terminus of the Baltic Pipeline System-2 (BPS-2).

It is located in the Luga Bay of the Gulf of Finland, about 110 km from St. Petersburg and not far from the border with Estonia.

Attacks on the port

The first large-scale Ukrainian strike on Ust-Luga took place on the night of March 25, 2026. Local residents reported a large number of explosions in the port area. Fires then broke out within the site.

On March 27, drones launched another attack on the port area. It was later reported that the strikes destroyed at least one oil-loading berth, while another was damaged.

On the night of March 31, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a new drone attack on this Russian port. NASA’s FIRMS service detected a fire on the port’s grounds.
