Russia has reported a drone attack on the city of Tula, home to defense industry enterprises.
The drone strike was confirmed by Dmitry Milyaev, the region’s governor.
The first series of loud explosions in the sky over the Russian city took place on the night of May 22, 2025, around 2:00 a.m. local time. Local residents reported hearing sounds resembling the operation of air defense systems.
Later, the governor of the Tula region stated that it was a mass drone attack and confirmed the operation of Russia’s air defense systems. He also reported that drone debris had fallen directly in the city of Tula.
As of 6:00 a.m., the attack was still ongoing. According to Milyaev, Russian air defense systems were already repelling the “tenth wave” of the airstrike.

He stated that as a result of the drone debris falling, both residential and non-residential buildings were damaged. It should be noted that this was likely due to the operation of Russia’s air defense systems.
It was also reported that one of the drones crashed into the roof of an apartment building in the Proletarsky district of Tula. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
At 7:31 a.m., the governor wrote on his Telegram channel that the wreckage of the UAV had fallen near the Zbroyar sports and recreation center on Kutuzova Street in Tula.
For safety reasons, the section of Kutuzova Street from Richard Sorge Street to Zagorodny Proyezd was closed off, and emergency services are working at the scene.
Earlier reports indicated that the airspace over Tula was closed to flights at all altitudes. Locals also mentioned a lack of internet in the city the day before.
This is not the first drone attack on the city of Tula, which is home to several enterprises that are part of Russia’s military industry. The previous attack occurred on May 7.
These include, in particular, JSC Instrument Design Bureau, which specializes in developing precision weapons, air defense systems, anti-tank missile systems, and other armaments.
JSC Tula Arms Plant, one of the oldest weapons enterprises in Russia, manufactures firearms, hunting weapons, and other products. Also, JSC NPO Splav, which specializes in developing and producing multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) such as Grad, Smerch, and Uragan.
